West Virginia is doing what?

I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz about that movie Brokeback Mountain. Well, I for one have been wanting to see it, but after this kind of stupidness, I think I’ll see something else. This is a quote from Heath Ledger, one of the main characters in the movie, the one who had nominations for his role in the movie, this was from a quote dated January 11, 2006.

Ledger also took a swipe at West Virginia, and displayed a dubious grasp of American history. “I heard a while ago that West Virginia was going to ban it but that’s a state that was lynching people only 25 years ago so that’s to be expected,” he was quoted as saying.

Story here.

Hmmmm, funny, 3 of our local, SMALL TOWN movie theaters have it advertised as coming out January 27th, and there is NO ban here in WV of this movie…so what the hell was that all about? And here I’ve been wanting to see it…but me thinks I will not waste any money on it now. Stupid rich actors need to get their facts straight before they run off at the mouth.

Oh, and from what I’ve researched online, WV’s last lynching was in 1931….and the men involved were convicted of murder under that 1921 anti-lynching law….so, uh, do the math Heath.

According to many of my gay male friends in California, they say Parkersburg, West Virginia has a large gay community. Another fact that Mr. Ledger must not have researched before opening his mouth to insert ________ (fill in the blank yourself).

What an asshole…no pun intended.
